Dr Nick Tate has over 40 years’ experience in the field of Information Technology including 16 years as a CIO/IT Director at two London banks and at the University of Queensland (UQ). He has worked in the UK, Europe, Middle East, North America and Australia, including 20 years with investment/commercial banks. In his 2 years at Macquarie Bank in Sydney he had responsibility for Global IT infrastructure.
Additionally, Dr Tate spent 15 years working with universities and research organisations, 2 years in real-time systems development and 3 years working with the Royal Navy and others on anti-missile missile systems.
Erdal is an Australian IT Security Professional with business development and management skills who focuses on Cyber Security, Cloud Computing, IT auditing and sharing his real life skills as a Speaker, Lecturer/ Trainer. He is currently working as Cybersecurity Architect / Security Advisor at Microsoft responsible in the EMEA region.
Erdal is advising and creating content to Government departments, Fortune 500 companies and Information Security Professionals to ensure they are getting prepared against latest "Cyber Crime" and being able to defend their organisations against any security breaches. He is actively involved in the complex IT security solutions, and enforcing regulatory requirements to the organisations, to protect their digital assets.
Dominic has extensive experience in advising on the commercial and regulatory aspects of new technology, broadcasting, and electronic communications ventures for local and international companies and policy and regulation in the ICT and telecommunications sectors, having spent 14 years advising the public and private sector on ICT legal issues.
Dominic is involved at all stages of the communications law and regulation-making process and liaises closely with, inter alia, the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), the Department of Communications, the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, SAPS Cybercrime Division, National Gambling Board and the Film and Publications Board on an on-going basis.
Jason is the founder and managing director of DFIRLABS. He was previously the Head of the Cyber Forensic Laboratory of the Special Investigating Unit, and prior to that he was a detective with the South African Police Service Commercial Branch. He has been a forensic investigation practitioner since 1991, and has specialised in the field of digital forensics science and cybercrime investigation since 1998. He has testified on several occasions in the South African High Court as well as the lower courts as an expert witness. He is also an active academic, trainer, researcher, and author in the fields of digital forensics and cybercrime.
The methods used to establish and run a Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) is a key priority of Roderick Mooi. He is the CSIRT Manager and Principal Engineer at the South African National Research Network (SANReN), which is managed by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Meraka Institute.
His role includes developing CSIRT service offerings, policies and processes. He also manages national and international partnerships including GÉANT/TF-CSIRT Trusted Introducer and leads the implementation of science DMZ, data transfer nodes and other Performance Emergency Response Team (PERT) related pilots.
Jacques is a senior lecturer in the department of Information Systems at UCT. His research covers a variety of topics within information systems security, with a specific focus on behavioural (human) aspects of information security. He supervises a Security & Privacy Research Group with more than a dozen active research students and has over 40 peer-reviewed publications.
Jacques holds a PhD in Information Technology from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
Sakkie Janse van Rensburg is the Executive Director of Information and Communication Technology Services (ICTS) at the University of Cape Town (UCT). He has a passion for providing service and solutions to the academic, administrative and research community and is familiar with developing ICT strategies and aligning them with those of the university.
Analysing software for security vulnerabilities and developing new ways to discover and exploit software is what gets Keith Makan out of bed in the morning. As an an IT Advisory and Penetration Tester at IOActive Inc, he also tries to spend as much of his time as possible mastering security testing techniques and developing ways to detect and exploit vulnerabilities. His aim is to further the state of the software security assessment art.
He has been employed at UCT since 1999. In this period he has held the positions of developer, systems programmer (SAP basis), manager of computer-assisted learning support and manager of the computing platforms team.
As co-founder of SensePost and head of Security Strategy for SensePost SecureData, Charl van der Walt has a deep understanding of what the future holds for information security, as well as a passion for teaching. He has hosted courses for universities and corporations worldwide and has frequently been a speaker at prestigious events like the Black Hat Briefings. As well as having been a network security consultant for the Commonwealth Games and the co-author of numerous books on cybersecurity, Charl has also acted as a security training advisor to the US Department of Defense for over five years.
Scott Carver is an experienced IT Architect and Trusted Advisor who specialises in Enterprise Information Security. Having worked in a variety of roles spanning operational, architectural and consulting spectrums, Scott has garnered a multifaceted skillset. Scott previously worked for one of South Africa's largest Telecommunication providers and now plies his trade as an Information Security Consultant at Dimension Data, providing companies with a more practical approach towards enterprise problem solving.
Sanjay is an industry expert in the areas of enterprise IT architecture and information security with over 17 years of broad IT experience. He has a strong technical background coupled with both a consulting and business background. He has been certified and has practiced information security since 2001. He has worked with several governments institutions, financials and corporates both in SA and around the world by designing and leading the development of security capabilities from security governance to technical deployments. Sanjay is an independent consultant, a Gartner associate consultant and serves on the board of ISACA SA.

Gordon Bailey-McEwan is a Security Systems Engineer working for F5 Networks in Sub Saharan Africa. He has had over 12 years’ experience in the telco; ISP; financial & vendor space on various technologies. Gordon specializes on F5’s security portfolio including DC Firewalls; Web Application Firewalls; DDoS Mitigation; Identity & Access Management and Anti-Fraud solutions.
Trevor Coetzee is the Regional Director of Intel Security South Africa and Sub Saharan Africa. His primary responsibilities include the overall guidance and direction of the South African and Sub Saharan African region and promoting the Intel Security brand.
Samantha is currently the Global Information Security Officer for the Maitland Group, a global advisory and administration firm. In addition to the Maitland Group, she has held positions in information security and digital forensics and worked in various industries over the years including government, telecoms, aviation, finance and higher education, both locally and abroad. She holds a Masters of Science degree in Computer Science (specialising in information security), a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree in Information Systems (specialising in computer forensics), and several information security industry certifications.
Barry Irwin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Rhodes University, South Africa. He established and has led the Security and Networks Research Group (SNRG) since its founding in 2003. He holds a PhD and a CISSP. His current areas of research include network traffic analysis, data visualization and webserver malware.
Tinus Janse van Rensburg joined Cisco in March 2016. His role is to build and support Cisco Cyber Security strategy into Africa. He was previously appointed as Cisco Global Service provider Account Manager, where he was responsible for providing advice, consultation services, sales strategies and gearing up Service provider customers with Cisco “end-to-end security” capabilities.

Based in London, he is a passionate security enthusiast and evangelist with more than 15 years of experience in the security arena. Paul Beyleveld is a Consulting Systems Engineer for Cisco Security Sales looking after the sub-Saharan region. He is responsible for providing advice, consultation services and gearing up Cisco customers with end-to-end security capabilities. Paul has over 13 years’ experience in Security business, six of which were spent at Cisco.

Ms ZHU Yunqian works as engineer at the Operation Department of National Computer network Emergency Response technical Team Coordination Center of China(CNCERT/CC), which is the national CERT of China and the key coordination team for China’s cybersecurity emergency response community. She is mainly in charge of the international cooperation of CNCERT/CC and promote to establish close links with other national/regional/international organizations and agencies.
